A person riding a motorbike will lose his/her driver’s license even if the pillion rider does not wear a helmet. Transport Commissioner MR Ajithkumar said that under the new amendment to the Central Motor Vehicle Act, the officials have the power to suspend the license.
Earlier, the state had reduced the fine mentioned in the act from Rs 1000 to Rs 500. But the provision for suspending the license for three months has not been withdrawn. Even after paying the fine, the license can be suspended and the driver can be sent for a refresher course.
