No total lockdown in Kerala; Chief Secretary clears confusion regarding prohibition order

Chief Secretary Viswas Mehta has cleared the confusion regarding the government order banning the assembly of more than 5 people due to increasing COVID transmission in the state.
Chief Secretary toldĀ  that there is no total lockdown in the state and that shops will not be closed down.
The shops and markets in the state will not be closed. District Collectors can take suitable decisions after identifying the places that need stricter regulations. The Chief Secretary stated that there is no point in implementing complete lock down in the state.

There was confusion regarding the order released by the Chief Secretary on Thursday which bannied the assembly of more than 5 people in the state. The confusion was about whether the order was applicable only in areas where disease transmission was reported or in the entire state.
The Chief Secretary’s order stated that assembly of more than five people is banned in public places in order to prevent disease transmission. The order will be valid from October 3 to 30.
However, it is hard to implement such an order as public transportation was restored and government offices started functioning normally. Assembly of over five people cannot be prevented in these situations.
