Night Curfew: Kerala imposes curbs on New Year eve

The Kerala government has imposed strict restrictions on New Year celebrations as the Omicron threat continues in the state. The statewide night curfew from 10 pm to 5 am came into effect from December 30.

The restaurants and hotels are allowed to function with 50 per cent capacity in the daytime. No gathering will be allowed in public places after 10 pm. The restrictions related to the night curfew will continue till January 2 in the state.

Grand celebrations in relation to the Cochin carnival were called off this year. Though, small events like the Kayaking competition were conducted as per the schedule. Usually, tourists flock to Fort Kochi in November and December. But, the number of foreign travellers to Fort Kochi is considerably low in this season.

Excluding the Sabarimala and Sivagiri pilgrims, people who travel for emergency during the curfew time must possess a self-declaration on purpose of travel with them. Police have been directed to take stringent measures against those who make unnecessary travels.
