Kerala’s single-day Covid cases cross 6k again, reports 6,477 infections

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala on Friday reported 6,477 Covid-19 cases, informed a press statement from the office of Health Minister K K Shailaja.

6,131 persons contracted the infection through contact out of which infection source of 713 remain unknown.

22 deaths were also confirmed of Covid-19 on Friday taking the official death toll to 635.

80 health workers were also confirmed of Covid-19.

Meanwhile, 3,481 recoveries were also reported on Friday.

The district-wise statistics of positive cases are: Kozhikode – 883, Thiruvananthapuram – 875, Malappuram – 763, Ernakulam – 590, Thrissur – 474, Alappuzha – 453, Kollam – 440, Kannur – 406, Palakkad – 353, Kottayam – 341, Kasaragod – 300, Pathanamthitta – 189, Idukki – 151 and Wayanad – 106.

There are 45,919 cative cases in the state. The total caseload in the state crossed 1.5 lakh and reached 1,54,456 infections.

Among the new COVID cases reported, 44 persons had returned from abroad while 226 returned from other states.

The district-wise statistics of contact cases are: Thiruvananthapuram – 814 Malappuram – 784, Kozhikode – 690, Ernakulam – 655, Thrissur – 607, Kollam – 569, Alappuzha – 551, Kannur and Palakkad – 419 each, Kottayam – 322, Kasaragod – 268, Pathanamthitta – 191, Idukki – 114 and Wayanad – 74.

Among the 80 health workers confirmed with COVID-19 on Friday, 19 are from Kannur, 14 from Thiruvananthapuram, 9 from Ernakulam, 6 each from Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Thrissur and Kasaragod, 5 from Palakkad, 3 each from Alappuzha, Malappuram and Kozhikode. 10 INHS employees in Ernakulam were also confirmed of Covid-19 on Friday.

The district-wise statistics of recoveries are: Thiruvananthapuram – 411, Kollam – 207, Pathanamthitta – 120, Alappuzha – 218, Kottayam – 193, Idukki – 69, Ernakulam – 325, Thrissur – 252, Palakkad – 223, Malappuram – 588, Kozhikode – 472, Wayanad – 79, Kannur – 217 and Kasaragod – 107.

There are 48,892 active coronavirus cases in Kerala at present. 1,11,331 have recovered. As many as 2,15,691 are under observation. Among them, 1,88,265 are in home/institutional quarantine while 27,426 are in hospitals. 3,410 were admitted to hospitals on Friday.

56,057 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. So far, 26,57,430 samples were sent for testing in different categories. 2,00,420 samples were collected from priority groups as part of sentinel surveillance.

12 new COVID hotspots were identified in Kerala on Friday while 14 areas were removed from the list. Currently, there are 652 hotspots in the state.
