Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala reported a record 8,830 Covid-19 cases on Wednesday, informed a press release from the office of Health Minister K. K. Shailaja.
63,682 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. 7,695 developed the disease through contact. The virus source of 748 is unknown.
At present there are 67,061 active cases in Kerala. 123 health workers also developed the disease. Meanwhile, 3,536 have recovered from the virus.
23 deaths were also confirmed of Covid-19 on Wednesday taking the official death toll to 742.
The district-wise statistics of positive cases are: Ernakulam – 1056, Thiruvananthapuram – 986, Malappuram – 977, Kozhikode – 942, Kollam – 812, Thrissur – 808, Alappuzha – 679, Palakkad – 631, Kannur – 519, Kottayam – 442, Kasaragod – 321, Pathanamthitta – 286, Wayanad – 214 and Idukki – 157.
Among the new Covid cases reported, 58 persons had returned from abroad while 164 returned from other states.
The district-wise statistics of contact cases are: Ernakulam – 896, Thiruvananthapuram – 835, Malappuram – 877, Kozhikode – 910, Kollam – 808, Thrissur – 781, Alappuzha – 658, Palakkad – 413, Kannur – 318, Kottayam – 442, Kasaragod – 286, Pathanamthitta – 195, Wayanad – 196 and Idukki – 105.
Among the 123 health workers confirmed with Covid-19 on Wednesday, 33 are from Kannur, 32 are from Thiruvananthapuram, 13 are from Kasaragod, 11 are from Kottayam, 6 are from Ernakulam, 5 each are from Pathanamthitta and Wayanad, 4 each are from Kollam and Thrissur, 3 each are from Alappuzha and Palakkad and 2 are from Kozhikode. Moreover, 6 INHS workers in Ernakulam district also developed the disease.
The district-wise statistics of recoveries are: Thiruvananthapuram – 379, Kollam – 295, Pathanamthitta – 204, Alappuzha – 302, Kottayam – 128, Idukki – 21, Ernakulam – 263, Thrissur – 155, Palakkad – 206, Malappuram – 601, Kozhikode – 589, Wayanad – 51, Kannur – 182 and Kasaragod – 160.
There are 67,061 active coronavirus cases in Kerala at present. 1,28,224 have recovered. As many as 2,40,884 are under observation. Among them, 2,11,294 are in home/institutional quarantine while 29,590 are in hospitals. 3,468 were admitted to hospitals on Wednesday.

15 new COVID hotspots were identified in Kerala on Wednesday while 15 areas were removed from the list. Currently, there are 660 hotspots in the state.
