Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala on Sunday reported a record 4,696 single-day Covid-19 cases, informed Health Minister K. K. Shailaja in a press release.
16 deaths were also confirmed in the state taking the death toll to 535. Out of the new cases, 4,425 infections were through contact. The infection source of 459 persons remains unknown.
80 health workers were also confirmed of Covid-19. As many as 2,751 recoveries were also reported in Kerala on Sunday.
The district-wise statistics of positive cases are: Thiruvananthapuram – 892, Ernakulam – 537, Kozhikode – 536, Malappuram – 483, Kollam – 330, Thrissur – 322, Palakkad – 289, Kottayam – 274, Kannur – 242, Alappuzha – 219, Kasaragod – 208, Pathanamthitta – 190, Wayanad – 97 and Idukki – 77.
The coronavirus casualties confirmed on Sunday were: Palakkad Chalavara native Kunjalan (69), who died on September 14, Thiruvananthapuram Koonthalloor native Baiju (48), Malappuram Meenathur native Ummar haji (65), Thiruvananthapuram Balaramapuram native Alikhan (58) and Malappuram Kaiparambu native Mariyumma (82), who died on September 17, Kasaragod native Moydeen Kunji (68), who died on September 7, Thrissur Edakkalathur native Parameswaran Nair (76), who died on September 15, Malappuram Mangalam native Bee Kutty (60), and Kollam Kovila native Radhamma (50), who died on September 16, Thrissur native Omanamma (62), who died on September 11, Ernakulam Vadakode native T. K. Sasi (67), who died on September 13, Kottayam Areeparambu native Mariyan (69), who died on September 3, Kottayam Changanassery native Babu (52) and Kottayam Monippally native V. T. Abraham (90), who died on September 1, Kottayam Cherpunkal native P. K. Gopi (71), who died on September 4, and Kottayam Chakkungal native Mariyamma Thomas (82).
Among the new COVID cases reported on Sunday, 44 persons had returned from abroad while 137 returned from other states.
The district-wise statistics of contact cases are: Thiruvananthapuram – 859, Ernakulam – 499, Kozhikode – 522, Malappuram – 465, Thrissur – 319, Kollam – 306, Palakkad – 266, Kottayam – 262, Kannur – 220, Alappuzha – 210, Kasaragod – 197, Pathanamthitta – 153, Wayanad – 98 and Idukki – 58.
Among the 80 health workers confirmed with COVID-19 on Sunday, 29 are from Thiruvananthapuram, 12 are from Kannur, 9 are from Malappuram, 7 each are from Pathanamthitta and Ernakulam, 6 are from Kasaragod, 4 are from Kollam, 3 are from Thrissur, 2 are from Palakkad and 1 is from Alappuzha.
Moreover, 10 INHS employees from Ernakulam were also confirmed of Covid-19 on Sunday.
The district-wise statistics of recoveries are: Thiruvananthapuram – 478, Kollam – 151, Pathanamthitta – 89, Alappuzha – 202, Kottayam – 121, Idukki – 65, Ernakulam – 289, Thrissur – 210, Palakkad – 145, Malappuram – 388, Kozhikode – 240, Wayanad – 53, Kannur – 157 and Kasaragod – 163.
There are 39,415 active coronavirus cases in Kerala at present. 95,702 have recovered. As many as 2,22,179 are under observation. Among them, 1,96,261 are in home/institutional quarantine while 25,918 are in hospitals. 3,154 were admitted to hospitals on Sunday.
41,630 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. So far, 24,27,374 samples were sent for testing in different categories. 1,95,841 samples were collected from priority groups as part of sentinel surveillance.
22 new COVID hotspots were identified in Kerala on Sunday while 14 areas were removed from the list. Currently, there are 638 hotspots in the state.
