Kerala reports record 3,830 COVID-19 cases on Wednesday

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala reported a record 3,830 fresh COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, said a press release from the office of Health Minister K. K. Shailaja.

Out of the fresh infections, 3,562 were through contact and the infection source of 350 remains unknown. 14 deaths were also confirmed due to Covid-19. As many as 66 health workers were also confirmed of the infection.

Among the new COVID cases reported on Wednesday, 49 persons had returned from abroad while 153 returned from other states.

The district-wise statistics of positive cases are: Thiruvananthapuram – 675, Kozhikode – 468, Alappuzha – 323, Ernakulam – 319, Kollam – 300, Malappuram – 298, Thrissur – 263, Kannur – 247, Pathanamthitta – 236, Palakkad – 220, Kottayam – 187, Kasaragod – 119, Wayaand – 99 and Idukki – 76.

The casualties confirmed of Covid-19 on Wednesday were Kannur Payyannur native T. V. Rajesh (47), who died on September 13, Malappuram Areacode native Aboobacker (70), who died on September 10, Malappuram Neduva native Nafeesa (76), Thiruvananthapuram Pappanamcode native Nijamudheen (61) and Kollam Perayam native Thomas (59), who died on September 9, Kozhikode Kallay native Kunjeeri (56) and Kozhikode Parambil native Raveendran (69), who died on September 8, Palakkad Mannarkkad native Ramla (56) and Palakkad Chermunda native Latha (52), who died on September 6, Palakkad Kulukkallur native Saraswathi Amma (84), who died on September 4, Palakkad Kalleppalam native Sulaiman (49) and Palakkad Karnaki Nagar native C. Subrahmanian (84), who died on September 1, Palakkad Pattambi native Aboobacker (80), who died on August 28 and Kozhikode native Sajitha (45), who died on August 30. With this, the death toll reached 480.

The district-wise cases of contact cases are: Thiruvananthapuram – 642, Kozhikode – 455, Ernakulam – 301, Alappuzha – 297, Kollam – 285, Malappuram – 281, Thrissur – 254, Kannur – 215, Palakkad – 202, Kottayam – 186, Pathanamthitta – 184, Kasaragod – 112, Wayaand – 92 and Idukki – 56.

Among the 66 health workers confirmed with COVID-19 on Wednesday, 28 are from Thiruvananthapuram, 9 are from Kannur, 8 are from Ernakulam, 7 are from Malappuram, 4 are from Thrissur, 3 are from Kollam, 2 are from Kasaragod while 1 each is from Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Palakkad and Kozhikode.

The district-wise statistics of negative cases are: Thiruvananthapuram – 418, Kollam – 26, Pathanamthitta – 157, Alappuzha – 120, Kottayam – 131, Idukki – 21, Ernakulam – 371, Thrissur – 220, Palakkad – 117, Malappuram – 257, Kozhikode – 155, Wayanad – 12, Kannur – 179 and Kasaragod – 79.

There are 32,709 active coronavirus cases in Kerala at present. 84,608 have recovered. As many as 2,11,037 are under observation. Among them, 1,87,968 are in home/institutional quarantine while 23,079 are in hospitals. 2,987 were admitted to hospitals on Wednesday.

46,162 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. So far, 22,45,139 samples were sent for testing in different categories. 1,91,931 samples were collected from priority groups as part of sentinel surveillance

15 new COVID hotspots were identified in Kerala on Wednesday while 22 areas were removed from the list. Currently, there are 610 hotspots in the state.
