Kerala reports highest ever single day spike of 9,258 coronavirus cases on Friday

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala reported a record 9,258 Covid-19 cases on Friday, informed a press release from the office of Health Minister K. K. Shailaja
This is the first time that Kerala is reporting over 9,000 coronavirus cases. 63,175 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. 8,274 developed the disease through contact. The virus source of 657 is unknown.
At present there are 77,482 active cases in Kerala. 93 health workers also developed the disease. Meanwhile, 4,092 have recovered from the virus.
20 deaths were also confirmed of Covid-19 on Thursday taking the official death toll to 791.

The district-wise statistics of positive cases are: Kozhikode – 1146, Thiruvananthapuram – 1096, Ernakulam – 1042, Malappuram – 1016, Kollam – 892, Thrissur – 812, Palakkad – 633, Kannur – 625, Alappuzha – 605, Kasaragod – 476, Kottayam – 432, Pathanamthitta – 239, Idukki – 136 and Wayanad – 108.
Among the new Covid cases reported, 47 persons had returned from abroad while 184 returned from other states.
The district-wise statistics of contact cases are: Kozhikode – 1109, Thiruvananthapuram – 956, Ernakulam – 851, Malappuram – 929, Kollam – 881, Thrissur – 807, Palakkad – 441, Kannur – 475, Alappuzha – 590, Kasaragod – 451, Kottayam – 421, Pathanamthitta – 161, Idukki – 99 and Wayanad – 103.
Among the 93 health workers confirmed with Covid-19 on Friday, 27 are from Thiruvananthapuram, 23 are from Kannur, 11 are from Ernakulam, 6 are from Kasaragod, 5 each are from Pathanamthitta and Kozhikode, 4 each are from Kottayam and Wayanad, 3 are from Alappuzha, 2 each are from Thrissur and Kollam and 1 is from Malappuram. Moreover, 3 INHS workers in Ernakulam district also developed the disease.

he district-wise statistics of recoveries are: Thiruvananthapuram – 357, Kollam – 295, Pathanamthitta – 218, Alappuzha – 342, Kottayam – 174, Idukki – 93, Ernakulam – 212, Thrissur – 270, Palakkad – 221, Malappuram – 951, Kozhikode – 423, Wayanad – 75, Kannur – 303 and Kasaragod – 158.
There are 77,482 active coronavirus cases in Kerala at present. 1,35,144 have recovered. As many as 2,46,631 are under observation. Among them, 2,15,778 are in home/institutional quarantine while 30,853 are in hospitals. 3,599 were admitted to hospitals on Friday.
63,175 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. So far, 30,49,791 samples were sent for testing in different categories. 2,13,499 samples were collected from priority groups as part of sentinel surveillance.
63 new COVID hotspots were identified in Kerala on Friday while 15 areas were removed from the list. Currently, there are 705 hotspots in the state.
