Kerala reports 8,135 Covid-19 cases on Thursday

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala reported 8,135 Covid-19 cases on Thursday, informed Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. He was addressing the media after a coronavirus review meet here.
This is for the second consecutive day that Kerala is reporting over 8,000 coronavirus cases. 59,157 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. 7,013 developed the disease through contact. The virus source of 730 is unknown.
At present there are 72,339 active cases in Kerala. 105 health workers also developed the disease. Meanwhile, 2,828 have recovered from the virus.
29 deaths were also confirmed of Covid-19 on Thursday taking the official death toll to 771.

The district-wise statistics of positive cases are: Kozhikode – 1072, Malappuram – 968, Ernakulam – 934, Thiruvananthapuram – 856, Alappuzha – 804, Kollam – 633, Thrissur – 613, Palakkad – 513, Kasaragod – 471, Kannur – 435, Kottayam – 340, Pathanamthitta – 223, Wayanad – 143 and Idukki – 130.
Among the new Covid cases reported, 67 persons had returned from abroad while 218 returned from other states.
The district-wise statistics of contact cases are: Kozhikode – 1013, Malappuram – 879, Ernakulam – 740, Thiruvananthapuram – 708, Alappuzha – 774, Kollam – 620, Thrissur – 603, Palakkad – 297, Kasaragod – 447, Kannur – 279, Kottayam – 316, Pathanamthitta – 135, Wayanad – 135 and Idukki – 67.

Among the 105 health workers confirmed with Covid-19 on Thursday, 29 are from Thiruvananthapuram, 26 are from Kannur, 16 are from Ernakulam, 8 are from Kottayam, 6 are from Kasaragod, 5 each are from Pathanamthitta, Kozhikode and Wayanad, 2 are from Malappuram and 1 each is from Kollam, Alappuzha and Palakkad districts. Moreover, 2 INHS workers in Ernakulam district also developed the disease.
The district-wise statistics of recoveries are: Thiruvananthapuram – 363, Kollam – 213, Pathanamthitta – 82, Alappuzha – 191, Kottayam – 148, Idukki – 70, Ernakulam – 226, Thrissur – 290, Palakkad – 113, Malappuram – 322, Kozhikode – 333, Wayanad – 59, Kannur – 129 and Kasaragod – 289.
There are 72,339 active coronavirus cases in Kerala at present. 1,31,052 have recovered. As many as 2,43,107 are under observation. Among them, 2,12,849 are in home/institutional quarantine while 30,258 are in hospitals. 3,150 were admitted to hospitals on Thursday

59,157 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. So far, 29,85,534 samples were sent for testing in different categories. 2,05,349 samples were collected from priority groups as part of sentinel surveillance.
14 new COVID hotspots were identified in Kerala on Thursday while 18 areas were removed from the list. Currently, there are 656 hotspots in the state.
