Kerala reported a record 7,834 Covid-19 cases on Saturday, informed a press release from the office of Health Minister K. K. Shailaja.
54,563 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. 6,850 developed the disease through contact. The virus source of 648 is unknown. At present there are 80,808 active cases in Kerala. 95 health workers also developed the disease.
Meanwhile, 4,476 have recovered from the virus. 22 deaths were also confirmed of Covid-19 on Saturday taking the official death toll to 813.
The district-wise statistics of positive cases are: Thiruvananthapuram – 1049, Malappuram – 973, Kozhikode – 941, Ernakulam – 925, Thrissur – 778, Alappuzha – 633, Kollam – 534, Palakkad – 496, Kannur – 423, Kottayam – 342, Pathanamthitta – 296, Kasaragod – 257, Idukki – 106 and Wayanad – 81.
Among the new Covid cases reported, 49 persons had returned from abroad while 187 returned from other states.
The district-wise statistics of contact cases are: Thiruvananthapuram – 836, Malappuram – 903, Kozhikode – 900, Ernakulam – 759, Thrissur – 771, Alappuzha – 607, Kollam – 531, Palakkad – 342, Kannur – 325, Kottayam – 333, Pathanamthitta – 178, Kasaragod – 236, Idukki – 63 and Wayanad – 66.
Among the 95 health workers confirmed with Covid-19 on Saturday, 24 are from Thiruvananthapuram, 23 are from Kannur, 11 are from Pathanamthitta, 9 are from Kozhikode, 8 are from Ernakulam, 5 are from Kasaragod, 4 each are from Palakkad and Malappuram, 3 are from Kottayam and 2 each are from Thrissur and Wayanad. Moreover, 5 INHS workers in Ernakulam district also developed the disease.
The district-wise statistics of recoveries are: Thiruvananthapuram – 906, Kollam – 284, Pathanamthitta – 131, Alappuzha – 486, Kottayam – 202, Idukki – 115, Ernakulam – 402, Thrissur – 420, Palakkad – 186, Malappuram – 641, Kozhikode – 278, Wayanad – 92, Kannur – 204 and Kasaragod – 129.
There are 80,818 active coronavirus cases in Kerala at present. 1,39,620 have recovered. As many as 2,51,286 are under observation. Among them, 2,20,218 are in home/institutional quarantine while 31,068 are in hospitals. 3,425 were admitted to hospitals on Saturday.
54,563 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. So far, 31,04,878 samples were sent for testing in different categories. 2,07,429 samples were collected from priority groups as part of sentinel surveillance.
32 new COVID hotspots were identified in Kerala on Saturday while 12 areas were removed from the list. Currently, there are 724 hotspots in the state.
