Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala reported 4,538 Covid-19 cases on Monday, informed Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. He was addressing the media after a coronavirus review meet here.36,027 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. At present there are 57,879 active cases in Kerala. Among them, 67 are health workers. So far 1,79,922 people have tested positive for the virus, the CM added.
Pinarayi Vijayan said that the number of patients in the state was doubling every 20 days. Kerala’s coronavirus mortality rate of 0.4 is lower than the national average or 1.6. This is a result of good care and facilities, he added.
The CM said that the increasing number of cases has contributed to more deaths. He added that stringent action will be taken to prevent the spread of the virus.
0 deaths were also confirmed of Covid-19 on Monday taking the official death toll to 697. 67 health workers were also confirmed of Covid-19. Meanwhile, 3,347 recoveries were also reported.
The district-wise statistics of positive cases are: Kozhikode – 918, Ernakulam – 537, Thiruvananthapuram – 486, Malappuram – 405, Kollam – 341, Kannur – 310, Alappuzha – 249, Kottayam – 213, Kasaragod – 122, Idukki – 114, Wayanad – 44, Pathanamthitta – 38.
Among the new Covid cases reported, 47 persons had returned from abroad while 166 returned from other states.
The district-wise statistics of contact cases are: Kozhikode – 908, Ernakulam – 504, Thiruvananthapuram – 463, Malappuram – 389, Thrissur – 372, Palakkad – 307, Kollam – 340, Kannur – 256, Alappuzha – 239, Kottayam – 208, Kasaragod – 111, Idukki – 76, Wayanad – 42 and Pathanamthitta – 31.
Among the 67 health workers confirmed with Covid-19 on Monday, 20 are from Kannur, 17 are from Thiruvananthapuram, 9 are from Ernakulam, 6 are from Kozhikode, 5 are from Thrissur, 3 are from Kasaragod, 2 each are from Alappuzha, Kottayam and Malappuram, 1 is from Wayanad. Moreover, 12 INHS employees from Ernakulam also tested positive for the virus.

There are 57,879 active coronavirus cases in Kerala at present. 1,21,268 have recovered. As many as 2,32,450 are under observation. Among them, 2,03,330 are in home/institutional quarantine while 29,120are in hospitals. 3,255 were admitted to hospitals on Monday.
36,027 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. So far, 28,04,319 samples were sent for testing in different categories. 2,02,157 samples were collected from priority groups as part of sentinel surveillance.
15 new COVID hotspots were identified in Kerala on Monday while 10 areas were removed from the list. Currently, there are 660 hotspots in the state.
