Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala on Friday reported 4,167 fresh Covid-19 cases on Friday, informed a press statement from the office of Health Minister K K Shailaja. This is the second day, the single-day caseload crossed 4,000 mark in state.
Out of the fresh infections, 3,849 were through contact and the infection source of 410 remains unknown. 12 deaths were also confirmed due to Covid-19 with which the death toll in state reached 501. As many as 102 health workers were also confirmed of the infection. Kerala also reported 2,744 recoveries on Friday.
The district-wise statistics of positive cases are: Thiruvananthapuram – 926, Kozhikode – 404, Kollam – 355, Ernakulam – 348, Kannur – 330, Thrissur – 326, Malappuram – 297, Alappuzha – 274, Palakkad – 268, Kottayam – 225, Kasaragod – 145, Pathanamthitta – 101, Idukki – 100 and Wayanad – 68.
Among the new COVID cases reported, 48 persons had returned from abroad while 165 returned from other states.

Among the 102 health workers confirmed with COVID-19 on Friday, 27 are from Thiruvananthapuram, 22 from Kannur, 9 from Malappuram, 8 each from Kollam, Thrissur and Kasaragod, 7 from Pathanamthitta, 6 from Kozhikode, 5 from Ernakulam and 1 each from Alappuzha and Palakkad. 3 INHS employees from Ernakulam were also confirmed of Covid-19 on Friday.

There are 35,724 active coronavirus cases in Kerala at present. 90,089 have recovered. As many as 2,16,262 are under observation. Among them, 1,91,628 are in home/institutional quarantine while 24,634 are in hospitals. 3,282 were admitted to hospitals on Friday.
47,723 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. So far, 23,36,217 samples were sent for testing in different categories. 1,94,451 samples were collected from priority groups as part of sentinel surveillance.
18 new COVID hotspots were identified in Kerala on Friday while 12 areas were removed from the list. Currently, there are 614 hotspots in the state.
