Kerala reports new high of 2,375 Covid-19 cases Today

 

Kerala on Tuesday reported 2,375 Covid-19 cases, informed the office of Health Minister K K Shailja. This is the highest single-day spike to be reported in the state.

The most number of cases were reported from Malappuram, Thiruvananthapuram, Kozhikode and Thrissur. 49 health workers also tested positive for Covid-19 on Tuesday. 10 deaths were also confirmed of Covid-19 in the state taking the death toll to 244.

Among the new cases, 2,142 contracted the disease through contact. 61 persons who tested positive for Covid-19 had returned from abroad and 118 returned from other states. Out of the contact cases, the infection source of 174 cases is unknown.

The district-wise statistics of positive cases are: Malappuram – 454 (413 through contact), Thiruvananthapuram – 391 (378 through contact), Kozhikode – 260 (243), Thrissur – 227 (220), Alappuzha – 170 (156), Ernakulam – 163 (128), Palakkad – 152 (109), Kannur – 150 (133), Kasaragod – 99 (98), Pathanamthitta – 93 (63), Kollam – 87 (85), Kottayam – 86 (85), Wayanad – 37 (26) and Idukki – 6 (5).

Among the 49, health workers tested Covid positive, 15 are from Malappuram, 11 are from Ernakulam, 10 are from Thiruvananthapuram, 5 are from Kannur, 3 from Pathanamthitta, 2 from Thrissur and 1 each from Kollam, Palakkad and Kasaragod. 5 INHS employees were also confirmed of the infection.

Meanwhile, 1,456 recoveries were also reported on Tuesday.

The district-wise recoveries are: Thiruvananthapuram – 303, Kollam – 57, Pathanamthitta – 32, Alappuzha – 60, Kottayam – 67, Idukki – 37, Ernakulam – 85, Thrissur – 90, Palakkad – 119, Malappuram – 240, Kozhikode – 140, Wayanad – 32, Kannur – 99 and Kasaragod – 95.

There are 21,232 active coronavirus cases in Kerala while 40,343 have recovered. As many as 1,83,749 are under observation. Among them, 1,66,784 are in home/institutional quarantine while 17,010 are in hospitals. 1,834 were admitted to hospitals on Tuesday.

34,344 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. So far, 14,84,907 samples were sent for testing. 1,66,945 samples were collected from priority groups as part of sentinel surveillance.

10 new Covid hotspots were identified in the state on Tuesday while 14 regions were removed from the list. There are a total of 619 hotspots in the state.
