Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala reported the highest ever single-day spike of 6,324 Covid-19 cases on Thursday, informed Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan while briefing media after the Covid-19 evaluation meet here. 5,321 persons contracted the infection through contact. 105 health workers were also confirmed of Covid-19. The infection source of 628 cases remain unknown.
21 deaths were also confirmed of Covid-19 on Thursday taking the official death toll to 613.
The highest number of infections were reported from Kozhikode, with 883 cases, out of which 849 were through contact.
54,989 samples were tested in last 24 hours.
3,168 recoveries were also reported in Kerala on Thursday.
The district-wise statistics of positive cases are: Kozhikode – 883, Thiruvananthapuram – 875, Malappuram – 763, Ernakulam – 590, Thrissur – 474, Alappuzha – 453, Kollam – 440, Kannur – 406, Palakkad – 353, Kottayam – 341, Kasaragod – 300, Pathanamthitta – 189, Idukki – 151 and Wayanad – 106.
There are 45,919 cative cases in the state. The total caseload in the state crossed 1.5 lakh and reached 1,54,456 infections.
Among the new COVID cases reported, 44 persons had returned from abroad while 226 returned from other states.

Among the 105 health workers confirmed with COVID-19 on Thursday, 28 are from Thiruvananthapuram, 19 from Kannur, 13 from Kasaragod, 9 from Malappuram, 8 from Thrissur, 7 each from Ernakulam, Kozhikode, 6 from Pathanamthitta, 4 from Wayanad, 2 from Alapuzha and 1 each from Kollam, Palakkad.

There are 45,919 active coronavirus cases in Kerala at present. 1,07,850 have recovered. As many as 2,12,318 are under observation. Among them, 1,85,198 are in home/institutional quarantine while 27,120 are in hospitals. 3,341 were admitted to hospitals on Thursday.
54,989 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. So far, 26,00,359 samples were sent for testing in different categories. 1,99,390 samples were collected from priority groups as part of sentinel surveillance.
22 new COVID hotspots were identified in Kerala on Thursday while 8 areas were removed from the list. Currently, there are 654 hotspots in the state.
