COVID: Kerala logs 54,537 fresh cases, TPR at 47%

Kerala on Friday logged 54,537 fresh cases of coronavirus infection.

Test Positivity Rate (TPR) soared to 47.05% after 1,15,898 samples were tested in the last 24 hours in Kerala.

Ernakulam continues to be the worst affected among districts with 10,571 fresh cases reported on the day.

The total cases climbed to 3,33,447 even as 30,225 recoveries were reported in the state.

Kerala’s COVID toll increased by 352 and reached 52,786.

The health department informed that besides 13 recent deaths, 81 fatalities had been added to the list upon the Supreme Court’s instructions. Meanwhile, 258 deaths were made official following appeals that were lodged before the health department.

The number of infections among healthcare workers continues to remain high with 530 fresh cases reported on the day. While 50,295 of the fresh cases were contracted through contacts, the source of infection in 3,485 remains unknown.

As for recoveries, Thiruvananthapuram recorded the highest, 6,921 while Ernakulam only had 450 persons recovering from the infection on the day.

There are 4,83,824 persons under observation in the state of whom 4,72,126 are in home/institutional quarantine and 11,698 are in hospitals.

On Friday, 1,629 hospitalisations were reported. The health department said in a release that only 3.5% of the 3.33 lakh active cases were in hospitals.
