Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala on Saturday reported the highest single-day spike of 7,006 Covid-19 cases, informed a press statement from office of Health Minister K K Shailaja. This is the first time the single day positive cases crossed 7,000 mark. Also, for the first time, the Covid-19 cases reported in a single day in Thiruvananthapuram crossed 1,000.
6,668 persons contracted the infection through contact out of which infection source of 664 remain unknown.
21 deaths were also confirmed of Covid-19 on Saturday taking the official death toll to 656.
93 health workers were also confirmed of Covid-19.
Meanwhile, 3,199 recoveries were also reported on Saturday.
The district-wise statistics of positive cases are: Thiruvananthapuram – 1050, Malappuram – 826, Ernakulam – 729, Kozhikode – 684, Thrissur – 594, Kollam – 589, Palakkad – 547, Kannur – 435, Alappuzha – 414, Kottayam – 389, Pathanamthitta – 329, Kasaragod – 224, Idukki – 107 and Wayanad – 89.
Among the new COVID cases reported, 68 persons had returned from abroad while 177 returned from other states.
The district-wise statistics of contact cases are: Thiruvananthapuram – 1024, Malappuram – 797, Ernakulam – 702, Kozhikode – 669, Thrissur – 587, Kollam – 571, Palakkad – 531, Alappuzha – 404, Kottayam – 382, Kannur – 381, Pathanamthitta – 258, Kasaragod – 196, Idukki – 81 and Wayanad – 85.
Among the 93 health workers confirmed with COVID-19 on Saturday, 22 are from Thiruvananthapuram, 15 from Kannur, 12 from Ernakulam, 11 from Kasaragod, 8 from Kollam, 5 each from Pathanamthitta, Malappuram and Kozhikode, 4 from Thrissur, 3 from Alappuzha, 2 from Palakkad, and 1 from Wayanad.
The district-wise statistics of recoveries are: Thiruvananthapuram – 373, Kollam – 188, Pathanamthitta – 149, Alappuzha – 335, Kottayam – 163, Idukki – 64, Ernakulam – 246, Thrissur – 240, Palakkad – 223, Malappuram – 486, Kozhikode – 414, Wayanad – 94, Kannur – 147 and Kasaragod – 77.
There are 52,678 active coronavirus cases in Kerala at present. 1,14,530 have recovered. As many as 2,22,330 are under observation. Among them, 1,94,447 are in home/institutional quarantine while 27,883 are in hospitals. 3,446 were admitted to hospitals on Saturday.
58,779 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. So far, 27,17,040 samples were sent for testing in different categories. 2,00,971 samples were collected from priority groups as part of sentinel surveillance.
19 new COVID hotspots were identified in Kerala on Saturday while 19 areas were removed from the list. Currently, there are 652 hotspots in the state.
