- Before Indian Independence, during the British period Arunachal Pradesh was known as North East Frontier Agency (NEFA). On 20 th January 1972, Late Sri Bibha Basu Das Shastri, then the director of research, renamed the state.
- The North East states of India are known as the Seven Sister States of North East and geographically Arunachal Pradesh is the largest of them all.
- One of the most interesting fact about Arunachal Pradesh is that it literally means “Land of Dawn-lit Mountains” in reference to the beautiful mountains found in the state. It is also known as Paradise of the Botanist or Orchid state of India
- Arunachal Pradesh did not gain the title and rights of a state until 20th February 1987. Before this it was declared as a union territory on 20th January 1972.
- The primary driver of this state’s economy is agriculture and ‘Jhum’(a kind of shifting cultivation) is the traditionally used method.
- More than 30 languages like Wancho, Tagin, Dafia, etc. are spoken in Arunachal Pradesh but English is its official language.

- Arunachal Pradesh has a number of religious monuments but the Tawang Monastery is the most famous. This 400 year old monastery is the largest monastery in India and second largest in the world.
